Almanac

Almanac data is derived from climate records available from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). These Almanac datasets typically go beyond the scope of Climate data.  Almanac data is longer term data, consisting of data like temperature, precipitation, and wind conditions.  Almanac data typically summarizes monthly and yearly means and averages for the entire history of the observation location.  Precipitation data includes both calendar year and monthly data, as well as comparisons to normal.  Almanac data exists only for the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Usage:

datatype=almanac

Example Almanac format data request:

http://datacloud.wxc.com/?vs=1.0&passkey=123456789&type=point&datatype=almanac&time=now&lat=38.90&lon=-77.04

Almanac data requests can be made for a specific 4-letter reporting station code instead of a latitude and longitude, if you prefer.

Usage:

datatype=almanac
station=kbos

Example Almanac format data request:

http://datacloud.wxc.com/?vs=1.0&passkey=123456789&type=point&datatype=almanac&time=now&station=kbos

Example Almanac format data response:

Almanac data requests can be made for a specific month by using the time parameter in YYYY-MM-DD format.  Note: All month-specific requests will automatically return the yearly summary, as well.

Usage:

datatype=almanac
time=2012-02-01

Example Almanac format data request:

http://datacloud.wxc.com/?vs=1.0&passkey=123456789&type=point&datatype=almanac&time=2012-02-01&station=kbos

Almanac data requests can be made for a range of months by using the time parameter in YYYY-MM-DD format, separating the months by a comma.  Note: All monthly-range requests will automatically return the yearly summary, as well.

Usage:

datatype=almanac
time=2012-01-01,2012-03-01

Example Almanac format data request:

http://datacloud.wxc.com/?vs=1.0&passkey=123456789&type=point&datatype=almanac&time=2012-01-01,2012-03-01&station=kbos

The period parameter can be used with the time parameter to return only monthly summaries, or only yearly summaries.

Usage:

datatype=almanac
time=2012-02-01
period=month (OR period=year)

Example Almanac format data request, using period=month:

http://datacloud.wxc.com/?vs=1.0&passkey=123456789&type=point&datatype=almanac&time=2012-02-01&station=kbos&period=month

Example Almanac format data response, using period=month:

ALMANAC RETURN VALUES

location
This is an element that contains location information about the point you are requesting AQI data for.

lat/lon
These parameters are attributes of the location element, used to specify the latitude and longitude of your data request. They are in decimal format. West and South are defined as negative.

Example:

lat=38.90&lon=-77.04

step
This is the element that contains weather information for one particular timestamp.

time

This is an attribute of the step element that defines the exact timestamp for the weather data in the format YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.

Example:

time=2012-02-02T00:00:00

Period
This element contains the time period for which the weather statistics are valid.  Periods are defined as months or years.  Note:  Unless you use the period parameter in your request (as discussed above), and specify “month” or “year”, DataCloud will return both monthly and yearly summaries.

Example:

period=month OR period=year
