Buoy

Buoy observation data is obtained from the National Data Buoy Center.  There are both stationary and drifting buoys that measure various atmospheric and water conditions.  The dataset also contains Coastal-Marine Automated Network (C-MAN) observations.  The data is available for all United States coastal areas, the Great Lakes, areas of the Pacific Ocean, areas of the Atlantic Ocean, and areas of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

Buoy RETURN VALUES

location
This is an element that contains location information about the point you are requesting AQI data for.

lat/lon
These parameters are attributes of the location element, used to specify the latitude and longitude of your data request. They are in decimal format. West and South are defined as negative.

Example:

Station
This element contains the ID of the buoy station for which the weather statistics are valid.

BuoyDateTime
This is an attribute of the step element that defines the exact timestamp for the weather data in the format YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS. 

Example:

BuoyDateTime=2012-02-28T00:00:00

ReportType
This element contains the type of device located at the requested location, either BUOY or CMAN.

Example:

<ReportType>BUOY</ReportType>

Name
This element contains the name of the buoy station for which the weather statistics are valid. 

Example:

<Name>Mission Bay, CA</Name>

WindDir
This element contains the direction of the atmospheric wind at the requested location.  Default unit is in degrees.

Example:

<WindDir>120</WindDir>

WindGust
This element contains the highest gust of wind observed at the requested location.  Default unit is in mph.

Example:

<WindGust>42</WindGust>

AirTemperature
This element contains the air temperature observed at the requested location.  Default unit is in degrees Fahrenheit.

Example:

<AirTemperature>66</AirTemperature>

Dewpoint
This element contains the dewpoint temperature observed at the requested location.  Default unit is in degrees Fahrenheit.

Example:

<DewPoint>62</DewPoint>

Barometric Pressure
This element contains the barometric pressure observed at the requested location.  Default unit is in inches of Mercury to the nearest 1/100th of an inch.

Example:

<BarometricPressure>30.14</BarometricPressure>

SeaLevelPressure
This element contains the sea level pressure observed at the requested location.  Default unit is in inches of Mercury to the nearest 1/100th of an inch.

Example:

WaterTemperature
This element contains the water temperature observed at the requested location.  Default unit is in degrees Fahrenheit.

Example:

<WaterTemperature>38</WaterTemperature>

WavePeriod
This element contains the period (time between waves) associated with wind-generated waves.  Default unit is given in seconds.

Example:

<WavePeriod>12</WavePeriod>

WaveHeight
This element contains the significant height due to both wind waves and swells.  Default unit is given in feet.

Example:

<WaveHeight>3.7</WaveHeight>
